Jala Neti
What is it?
Jala Neti is an ancient yogic technique to relieve sinus and respiratory issues.
The word “Neti” means “nasal cleansing” and “Jala” means “water”.
How does it work?
Neti gently removes dirt, and bacteria filled mucus from the nasal structures.
Neti uses body temperature saline water to do this. This leaves you breathing clearer and your sinuses less irritated.
Conditions Treated.
- Neti helps the bodies natural defenses work against nasal infections, such as hay fever, allergies, sinusitis, upper respiratory complaints, sore throats, coughs, postnasal drip, inflammation of the tonsils and adenoids, asthma and bronchitis.
- It reduces mouth breathing.
- It can benefit middle ear infections, glue ear and tinnitus suffers.
- It can improve your sense of smell and taste, improving your appetite, digestion and interest in food.
- There often less need for other medications with uncomplicated sinus problems when you use Neti regularly.
For best results use your pot daily and in acute situations you may use it twice daily.
There is no contra indications with any other health modality
How to use your Neti Pot.
- First you warm the pot with hot water.
- Then three quarter fill the pot with body temp clean water.
- Add a pinch of salt and stir in till it has dissolved.
- Over a sink of basin tilt your head and gently insert the nozzle of the pot into a nostril, sealing off the air to that nostril.
- No water should be pouring out of the pot onto your face. If there is then a little experimentation with the tilt of your head and the pot may be needed.
- The salt water will flow up your nostril and though your sinuses, then flow out of your other nostril cleansing and removing any mucus and dust etc, on the way.
- While this is going on breath thru your other nostril and mouth.
- Repeat for the other side.
- Use aprox half the water in the pot for each side.
- Blow your nose gently (bending forward) after Jala Neti to remove and dislodge mucus or remaining water.
- Clean the Pot by rinsing after use with hot water and sanitize weekly with boiling water.
